YOGA

Join us for daily yoga classes in our fully-equipped and far-infrared-heated studio. Yoga is a holistic practice that originated in Asia and encompasses physical postures (asana), breath control (pranayama), meditation (dhyana), and ethical principles (yama and niyama). It aims to promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, fostering a harmonious connection between the body, mind and spirit. Yoga is often used for relaxation, stress reduction, flexibility, strength building, and cultivating mindfulness. There are various styles and approaches to yoga, each emphasising different aspects of the practice.

Simply create your online profile HERE then go to the Classes page to view our calendar and book onto a class. All our yoga classes are 60 minutes long and we offer different levels of class, so there's something for everyone; from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. We recommend beginners start with basic or gentle classes, to understand the foundations of the practice before committing to stronger, faster-paced classes. Scroll down to see the styles of yoga class we currently have on offer at Mind Body Lab.

CALISTHENICS

Calisthenics is a form of functional fitness training which utilises the body's own weight to build strength, mobility and balance through a variety of movements; from pull-ups, push-ups and squats to dynamic gymnastic-style movements. Calisthenics has exploded in popularity in the UK over the last decade due to it's accessibility as it requires minimal to no equipment. There is a heavy focus on good form and whole body engagement as opposed to isolated muscle movements which tend to be performed in a typical gym environment. Calisthenics helps to improve not only strength, but balance, mobility, endurance and coordination.

Our purpose-built, outdoor calisthenics gym at Mind Body Lab is the first of it's kind in Wolverhampton and offers a more holistic way to train. Get your vitamin D hit, your nature fix and move your body, all at the same time. The birds are our soundtrack, the elements are our connection to nature and you won't see any mirrors here, allowing you to connect to your inner space. We currently have installed a high bar, medium bar, 2 dip stations and Swedish ladder with plenty of equipment and space for floor work.

Our indoor functional fitness suite is in our conservatory where you will find plenty of equipment to keep you moving throughout the cooler months. The gym is rubber matted and fully equipped for a great calisthenics/functional fitness session with weight plates and weight belts, kettlebells, resistance bands, pull/lever stations, dip bars, parallettes, benches and plyo boxes.

We offer coached group calisthenics classes every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm, Thursday evening at 6.15pm and Saturday morning at 10am-11.15am. Calisthenics meet-ups take place on the last Saturday of each month 11.30am-2pm and are free to attend for anyone interested in the sport. You can find more about the discipline of calisthenics and keep up to date with what's on by keeping an eye on our calisthenics page.

CAFÉ - Canalside Kitchen

Join us for brunch Monday to Saturday between 11am and 2pm and enjoy healthy, wholesome food in a calm and relaxed setting. We also serve the best fresh coffee, chai lattes and hot chocolates in the area! Come take a break and enjoy a chat in our friendly café, chill in our conservatory or connect with nature in our peaceful gardens. Mind Body Lab is the perfect setting for a catch-up with family, friends and colleagues or to simply sit and unwind.

Our food is fresh, whole and plant-based. Our sourdough bread is made fresh every morning and collected from our local artisan bakers, www.medicinebakery.co.uk in Codsall.

From a scientific perspective - The science and benefits of a whole-foods plant-based diet are supported by numerous studies and research findings and include a lower risk of heart disease, improved weight-management, reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, lower risk of certain types of cancer, improved digestive health, reduce inflammation, increase in longevity and lower environmental impact. With the majority of the world's population being lactose intolerant post infancy, a diet free of milk-derived products is the healthiest choice for most people and will reduce the risk of chronic inflammation and and other chronic illness.

From a yogic philosophical perspective - We promote a compassionate and more mindful approach to life - which begins with one's personal choices and self-discipline. The moral choice to abstain from eating other sentient beings plays a fundamental part in the purification process of mind and body. We absorb the energy of whatever we eat, including the mental state of the animals we consume. When these "toxins" and the low quality (tamasic) energy they bring into the mind-body are removed, we begin to increase calming quality (sattvic) which yoga seeks to optimise in practitioners.

THERAPY ROOM - The Zen Den

HOT & COLD THERAPY

We are so excited to soon be offering hot and cold therapy at Mind Body Lab. The benefits of cold and heat exposure are well-documented and now scientifically proven by metabolic scientist, Dr Susanna Søberg from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Susanna's research has shown that up to 11 minutes of deliberate cold exposure and up to 60 minutes of deliberate heat exposure each week will improve metabolism, cardiovascular and brain health, balance hormones and decrease inflammation. You can read more about her research on her website: www.soeberginstitute.com

Our sauna and ice plunge pool will be available for customers to use within the next few months. If you're interested in reading more about cold exposure, check out Cold Plunge Protocols - recommended by Dr Andrew Huberman on his podcast, Huberman Lab Podcast

Yoga Styles Currently On Offer

Yoga Basics & Beginners

Slow-paced classes covering fundamental breathing techniques and yoga postures to begin to build foundational strength and start to release tension from the body and improve mind-body connection. This class is ideal for complete beginners or those looking to take their practice back to basics.

Yin Yoga

A very slow-paced and meditative class held under our warm, far-infrared heaters and in candle light, allowing for a completey relaxing experience. This is a Yin-style class in which props are utilised to support the body's position, allowing the body to completely relax into postures which are held for anywhere between 3-5 minutes. This class is ideal for those who carry lots of tension in the body as the longer holds helps to open up the fascia. The class is also great for those looking to unwind from a stressful day.

Gentle Yoga

Slow-paced and mainly floor-based yoga practice under our warm far-infrared heaters. A mix of gentle strengthening work, fundamental yoga postures with breathwork and meditation techniques. These classes are perfect for beginners or those looking for a gentle but energising start to their Sunday.

Hot Yoga

Classical yoga in a room heated to anywhere between 28-33°C. Improve your heat tolerance, improve the function of your cardiovascular system and enjoy the benefits of our far-infrared heaters. Great for those with limited range of motion, sore/tight muscles and painful joints.

Chair Yoga

Perfect for those with mobility issues or those who would struggle getting up and down from the floor in a typical yoga class. In these chair-based classes, we utilise modified postures to help stretch and strengthen the body and improve mobility. We also teach breathing techniques to help improve lung function and meditation techniques to help restore and relax the mind.

Meditate & Move

A class focusing on meditation and conscious movement, suitable for all levels of practitioner.

Dynamic Yoga

A physically challenging class which is focused on building stength and stamina and improving flexibility whilst focussing the mind.

Ashtanga Yoga

A highly structured, athletic form of yoga, with a strict focus on breath control and alignment. Ashtanga yoga is a disciplined, spiritual practice which starts and ends with mantras to focus the mind. Our 60 minute, condensed Ashtanga classes are delivered in a flow style and explore postures from both the primary and intermediate series to make the method more wholesome for non-daily practitioners.
